Our history...
1906... A home is purchased on Linden Street in Meadville
as the result of a $2,000 bequest from
Mr. Hiram Fuller Whiting.
A matron and assistant matron are hired at $15.00 per month.
Elderly men and women are admitted to the home.
1908...
Major A.C. Huidkoper
donates land on Williamson
Road. The original building was erected at a cost of $21,000. It housed both children and elderly women.
1928... A wing is added for the exclusive use of the children.
1951... An infirmary, elevator, new heating system and four more residential rooms are added to the main building as a bequest from
Mrs. Kathryn Shippen Tarr.
1965... The care of children is eliminated.
1967... Extensive remodeling is done so that both personal care and nursing care could be provided.
1995 - 1996... The nursing care unit is discontinued and the capacity for personal care is increased. A major renovation results in availability of suites
with private baths in this area.
1998... Hillside Home partners with Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
2001... Hillside Home celebrates
95 years of caring
with its first annual Christmas luminary display.
